Proteomics studies driven by large consortia often led to heterogeneous data due to different strategies, techniques and equipment (2D gel electrophoresis, mass spectrometry etc.). Nevertheless, results have to be implemented into one database to assure a common, standardized interpretation. To avoid pitfalls a suitable database concept has to be defined from the very beginning.
Thus, the SMP Proteomics within NGFN2 (Human Brain Proteome Project 2) as well as the Brain Proteome Project (BPP) of the Human Proteome Organization (HUPO) established a single Data Collection Center (DCC) for storing all gained cumulative research data.
The minimum requirement of the DCC is to offer a platform for reviewing the complete data sets and to provide the means for central reprocessing. The HUPO BPP community decided to use the ProteinScape 1.2 software platform as all necessary aspects of a proteomic research is patterned.
The results of two HUPO BPP pilot studies are now collected as the first test using the ProteinScape software as the common platform.
